Hugh Jackman has 2nd skin cancer growth removed
The actor revealed last fall that he has basal-cell carcinoma
The Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman has had another cancerous growth removed.
The 45-year-old actor attended the premiere of his latest film, X-Men: Days of Future Past Saturday with a bandage over his nose. He told The Associated Press he had a basal-cell carcinoma removed two nights earlier.
Jackman said he learned the results of a recent biopsy earlier on Thursday and had it removed right after.
Basal-cell carcinoma is a slow-growing form of skin cancer. Jackman was treated for the same disease last year but said the prognosis was good: "It's all out now."
He urges others to "get checkups and wear sunscreen."
Australia has the highest skin cancer rate in the world, and two in three Australians will be diagnosed before age 70, according to the national health department.
Jackman is an advocate for cancer research. He has revealed that when he asked his mother-in-law Fay Duncan — president of the Fight Cancer Foundation in Australia — for her blessing when he proposed to his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, she told him that supporting the fight against cancer was one of the requirements to get that blessing.
