Lilith Fair cancels dates, including Montreal

The Lilith Fair is still suffering from low ticket sales and has now cancelled another 10 gigs, including Montreal, in addition to two announced earlier in the week.

Original 35-date tour now down to 20

The all-female music event Lilith Fair continues to run into sluggish sales with the announcement of another 10 cancellations, including a July 23 stopover in Montreal.

The Fair's original 35-date tour has now been cut to 20.

Other gigs that have been ditched include:

  • Salt Lake City.
  • Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C.
  • West Palm Beach and Tampa, Fla.
  • Birmingham, Ala.
  • Austin, Houston and Dallas, Texas.

Shows in Nashville and Phoenix had already been nixed earlier while some other concerts were moved to smaller venues.

"We are in the midst of one of the most challenging summer concert seasons with many tours being cancelled outright," said the event's co-founder Terry McBride in a statement on Friday.  McBride maintains the economic slowdown is to blame for the lag in ticket sales.

"Everyone involved with the tour would like to apologize to the fans and artists scheduled to play in these markets, and express appreciation for all the support for the festival's return."

The concert tour, which includes co-founder Sarah McLachlan, kicked off Sunday in Calgary with 11,000 showing up.

Performers on the roster include Emmylou Harris, Chantal Kreviazuk, Indigo Girls, Corinne Bailey Rae and Serena Ryder.
