Remigio Pereira yanked from upcoming Ontario concerts after The Tenors' O Canada performance
Singer was supposed to appear alongside musician Pavlo in October before controversial O Canada rendition
Remigio Pereira, who took the spotlight this week after changing the words to O Canada in a public performance with The Tenors, has been removed from upcoming concerts in Ontario.
The Boston-born, Ottawa-raised singer was supposed to perform alongside guitarist Pavlo in London and St. Catharines, Ont., in the fall as part of a double-headlining tour outside of his work with The Tenors.
"Due to circumstances surrounding Remigio Pereira's anthem-altering incident last week, he will no longer be performing at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre," the St. Catharines venue, which made the decision, said in a statement.
Instead, the Oct. 6 bill now reads that Pavlo, a Toronto-born guitarist known for his Mediterranean style of playing, will appear with "guests" not yet named.
Pereira has also been removed from the bill for a Sept. 28 stop in London, Ont., according to the Aeolian Hall box office.
The vocalist came under fire after inserting the words "all lives matter" into a performance of the national anthem July 12 at the Major League Baseball all-star game in San Diego, Calif. He also held up a sign with the same words.
He later apologized after his fellow Tenors quickly issued a statement saying they had no idea Pereira was going to pull the political stunt. Group members suspended him from the successful vocal group as a result.
Late Monday, Pavlo tweeted that "the tour will have to continue without Remi."
Pereira was to perform with Pavlo in Calgary and Brampton in September.
An update is expected tomorrow from the tour's management team.
