Giving the Iron Man format a mystical makeover, Doctor Strange is worth watching for the Marvel-branded movie magic and mind-bending effects, says CBC's Eli Glasner.

Doctor Strange is essentially Iron Man with a mystical makeover.

It's built on Marvel's signature blend: a balance of special effects, amazing abilities and its own special brand of humanity, where great things happen (characters learn to fly, cast spells, grow impressive goatees), but they remain people.

Still, the real star is the special effects team. Doctor Strange's magical battles turn Manhattan into a concrete kaleidoscope — worth watching on the biggest screen you can find.

RATING: 4 out of 5 stars.
