Documentary tackles controversial Canadian showman
In Show Stopper, director Barry Avrich chronicles the career of Garth Drabinsky, an entertainment industry trail-blazer who remains a controversial figure.
A constant risk-taker, Drabinsky shook up the live theatre scene by bringing Broadway-style productions north to Toronto. He also changed the way we watch movies by co-creating the modern-day multiplex theatre.
His gambles also got Drabinsky into trouble. He ended up in jail over questionable accounting practices at Livent, the theatre production company he headed.
