Britney Spears has checked out of a luxurious Los Angeles rehabilitation centre "after successfully completing their program," the pop star's manager said in a statement released Tuesday.

Spears, 25, entered the Promises Malibu Alcohol and Drug Rehab Treatment Facility Feb. 22 after a bout of bizarre behavior that included shaving her head, getting tiny lips tattooed on her wrist and beating a car with an umbrella.

Promises offers detox, counselling and 12-step programs. Spears has not disclosed why she was at the exclusive rehab facility.

Manager Larry Rudolph asked that Spears' privacy be respected and would not say if she would be joining estranged husband Kevin Federline as he celebrates his 29th birthday Wednesday.

The two have joint custody of their sons, Jayden James, six months, and Sean Preston, 18 months. Federline and the children reportedly visited Spears during her treatment.

Federline planned to celebrate his birthday with family Wednesday and then travel to Las Vegas for a party Saturday at Pure Nightclub, said his publicist, Marilyn Lopez.

Spears' activities have been closely watched by the press since she filed for divorce from the aspiring rapper in November.

A long list of celebrities have sought treatment at Promises, including Ben Affleck, Charlie Sheen, Diana Ross and Matthew Perry.

A 30-day stay at the Mediterranean-style villa costs $48,000 US.
