TIFF 2014: Kate Winslet's A Little Chaos to close 39th annual event

Kate Winslet's period piece A Little Chaos has been selected to close the 39th Toronto International Film Festival, according to organizers who released today a partial list of movies slated to premiere.
TIFF CEO and director Piers Handling and artistic director Cameron Bailey made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday in Toronto outlining the 13 galas and 46 special presentations selected so far.
The list is just a fraction of the more than 300 films expected to screen at the annual festival in September.
While Winslet's attendance at TIFF hasn't been confirmed, it's likely the Oscar-winning actor will appear for the closing-night gala of Alan Rickman's A Little Chaos.
The historical drama will get the full red carpet gala treatment at Roy Thomson Hall on Sept.13.
Festival-goers will have to wait a little longer to find out which film will be honoured to open the festival.
Bailey told reporters that festival programmers are still working on confirming the opening night gala.
Big films can bring big stars
Last year's festival attracted 432,000 visitors and an array of stars, and this year promises to be no different.
Stars with films in this year's festival include Robert Downey Jr., Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston, Andrew Garfield, Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Denzel Washington, Anthony Michael Hall, Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Vanessa Redgrave, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Jason Bateman, Robert Duvall, Billy Bob Thornton, Vera Farmiga, Julianne Moore and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Reese Witherspoon is also likely to attend. The 38-year-old actress has two films in the festival, each directed by a Canadian – Wild directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and The Good Lie, directed by Philippe Falardeau.

- The Equalizer – directed by Antoine Fuqua, U.S., world premiere.
- Maps to the Stars – directed by David Cronenberg, Canada/Germany, North American premiere.
- The New Girlfriend – directed by François Ozon, France, world premiere.
- Pawn Sacrifice – directed by Ed Zwick, U.S., world premiere.
- The Riot Club – directed by Lone Scherfig, U.K., world premiere.
- Samba Olivier – directed by Nakache and Eric Toledano, France, world premiere.
- This is Where I Leave You – directed by Shawn Levy, U.S., world premiere.
More titles will be announced throughout the summer, with the Canadian lineup due to be released at a news conference on Aug. 6.
The 39th film festival will be held Sept. 4 to 14.
