Usher's rocker Josh Kaufman wins The Voice

R&B singer and The Voice coach Usher has racked up his first-ever win on the hit TV singing competition, with his soulful rocker Josh Kaufman named champion Tuesday night.

Kaufman, 38, was crowned winner of the NBC show's sixth season during a music-packed finale that included performances by top acts Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, OneRepublic, Tim McGraw and Robin Thicke.

"It was a lot of nerves and heart-racing and it felt like forever," Kaufman said after the show.

Usher "stole" Kaufman after Maroon Five frontman and fellow judge Adam Levine cut the contestant in an earlier round.

Following Kaufman's win, Usher joked that pop star Levine — who also had a contender in the final three — was "behind the stage counting votes."

Both Levine and country star Blake Shelton have previously coached emerging artists to wins during previous seasons of the TV competition. Shelton's contestant Jake Worthington placed second, while Levine's singer Christina Grimmie was third.

The fan-voted contest ran into a bit of a snag in the final stage, when a glitch on iTunes prevented Kaufman's fans from casting votes for him by downloading his cover of Set Fire to the Rain.

However, the iTunes glitch was dealt with and the show's accounting firm certified that the problem did not affect the outcome, according to host Carson Daly.

Tuesday evening's finale included a farewell to performer Shakira, who has alternated with Christina Aguilera as a coach on The Voice but, moving forward, decided to refocus on her career and raising her toddler son.

Levine and Shelton will be joined by Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams as judges for the seventh season of The Voice.
