Buffy Sainte-Marie answers your need-to-know questions
Legendary Cree musician talks about culture, music and self-care
Buffy, a five-part series from CBC Podcasts, tells the story of Buffy Sainte-Marie, the legendary Cree musician who would go on to become one of the most recognizable Indigenous artists ever.
In the series, Mohawk and Tuscarora writer and broadcaster Falen Johnson traces Sainte-Marie's story from her young days in Wakefield, Mass., (a town she refers to as Javex, U.S.A., because it was so white) to New York's Greenwich Village's folk scene, where she shared the stage with folks like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, and even to Sesame Street.
The podcast uses CBC's archives that showcase the earliest days of Buffy's career and looks at the life, music and continued influence Sainte-Marie has on Indigenous artists, thinkers and grassroots leaders.
CBC Podcasts and CBC Indigenous reached out to fans to see what their need-to-know questions were for the Cree phenom. Here is what they most wanted to know.
Spoiler: Her skin care routine is not as extensive as you might think.
