Facebook's instant articles service, which allows media firms to publish articles directly to users' news feeds, launched in Canada and on Android devices today.

Starting Wednesday, Canadian users may start to see articles from Le Journal de Montréal and Le Journal de Québec, Facebook said in a news release. Rogers Media brands such as Chatelaine, Maclean's and Sportsnet are expected before the end of this year.

Facebook also rolled the instant articles service out to Android users around the world.

The service involves more than 350 publications worldwide including the New York Times, NBC News, the Guardian, Haaretz and Al Jazeera English.

Instant articles was launched in May with nine media outlets in the U.S., the U.K. and Germany. It has been available on iOS devices since October.

The service allows publishers to either sell and embed advertisements in the articles and keep all of the revenue, or allow Facebook to sell ads.

Facebook also lets publishers track data and traffic through comScore and other analytics tools.
