Gervais the crude

Comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the ceremony for a fourth time, repeating his unapologetic, boundary-pushing, Hollywood-skewering brand of humour. He took shots at Sean Penn, Bill Cosby, Mel Gibson and yes, even Adam Sandler's 2015 box office flop, Pixels.

Damon, who won best comedic actor for The Martian, commented on the track record of his films.

DiCaprio, who was awarded best drama actor for The Revenant, recognized First Nations and Indigenous People in his acceptance speech.
