Powerball party proves premature (spoiler alert: they didn't win)

Timing is everything.

But for 42 New Jersey restaurant workers, it was nothing.

For 20 minutes, the workers mistakenly believed they won last Saturday's massive $1.3 billion US jackpot.

The workers even documented their hilarious yet heartbreaking story.

Bartender Charlie Poveromo had his friend text him the winning numbers, believing they were from Saturday's draw.

The restaurant's security cameras captured the moment Poveromo believed he had the winning numbers.

Then staff gathered as Poveromo read the numbers aloud.

Pandemonium erupted as the workers celebrated their would-be jackpot.

"We were a mess for 20 minutes, and bam! It was over," Poveromo told NorthJersey.com.

Poveromo told Jimmy Kimmel his wife wisely asked him to double-check the numbers.

"When I went to the Powerball website, they had refreshed the numbers and, sure enough, every number was different and I knew we had a problem," he said at 3:08.

As it turns out, Poveromo originally checked the numbers against the previous Wednesday's draw. 

What are the odds?

The restaurant's dishwashers even prematurely quit, but the owner said they're now back at work. 

"You know what they say: When God closes a door, he opens a dishwasher," Kimmel quipped.

The whole ordeal reminds us of the episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air when butler Geoffrey was tricked into thinking he won the lotto.

That didn't turn out so well for him either.
