A conference in Cairo to raise money to rebuild the Gaza Strip after the Hamas-Israel war ended with pledges of $5.4 billion US on Oct. 12, 2014. Large parts of the Gaza Strip lie in ruins after the 50-day war this summer, with little evidence of reconstruction because Israel is worried Hamas will use the material to rebuild tunnels dug beneath the Gaza border to launch attacks on Israeli soil.
