A year ago, Alberta's second wave of COVID-19 took aim at northeast Calgary. Communities there were marked with high case counts, finger pointing and fear that vaccine uptake would be low. But when community, government and health officials came together, people rolled up their sleeves. Northeast Calgary outpaced expectations in subsequent waves as COVID cases dramatically spiked in other Alberta regions.
