New rules designed to safeguard right whales while letting some P.E.I. lobster boats carry on
P.E.I. lobster fishing crews are hoping new rules from the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans will mean fewer days lost to closures when endangered right whales swim into Island waters. A pilot project will let harvesters using whalesafe gear keep fishing if one right whale is detected in their zone. Initial closures will also be shorter. CBC's Nancy Russell has a preview of the new rules.
