Jayna Hefford, the Professional Women's Hockey League executive vice-president of hockey operations, said that adding a team to Vancouver would add to efforts by B.C. Hockey to grow the game for girls in the province. Hefford, herself a former hockey player, said it was momentous to bring a team to Vancouver, where she won Olympic gold in 2010.
