'It's brutal': Residents of Kitchener encampment react to region's intention to clear them out
The encampment at the corner of Victoria and Weber Streets in downtown Kitchener is home to some people who have lived there for multiple years. They say they were surprised when several dumpsters arrived on site one day in mid-April, accompanied by a notice of a proposed bylaw to clear the tents before the end of the year. The region says they need the property to accommodate construction of a a transit hub. Some local advocates have pushed back against the decision and they're asking the region to handle the eviction differently. CBC K-W's Aastha Shetty went to the encampment to speak to the residents directly impacted.
