When asked at the first ministers’ meeting in Saskatoon on Monday if the federal government would fast-track a pipeline without a private sector proponent, Prime Minister Mark Carney said that ‘it’s not a decision we have to make today.’ Alberta Premier Danielle Smith added that ‘I think there will be a proponent that will step forward.'
