Waterloo MPP calls on province to study impact of social media on youth
Waterloo MPP Catherine Fife has brought forward a motion at Queen's Park that calls on the Ontario government to research the harmful impact social media can have on children and youth. Fife's motion asks the standing committee on social policy to commission a report that would look at the addictive nature of social media, clarify the responsibilities of social media companies in moderating access for children under 13 years of age and require Ontario health units to give clear warnings about the mental health harms excessive social media use can result in.
