Demasduit's capture at Red Indian Lake in 1819 helps us understand why the Beothuk culture was violently wiped from the territory we now know as Newfoundland and Labrador. Author and playwright Leahdawn Helena describes what happened to Demasduit and her family on that day and its lasting impacts.
