The Island Brave are a team of paddlers from Snuneymuxw First Nation, who are headed to Brazil in August to represent Canada at the World Distance Championships in the war canoe category. The team was started in 2002 by Chief Mike Wyse as a way to engage Indigenous youth, and is now captained by his son, Michael.
