U.S. President Donald Trump has hiked tariffs for goods that don't comply with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) from 25 per cent to 35 per cent as the Aug. 1 trade deal deadline passed. Laura Dawson, executive director of Future Borders Coalition, says negotiators are learning as they go when it comes to making a viable trade deal between Canada and the U.S. While the Trump administration has made deals with the EU and Mexico, she tells BC Today host Michelle Eliot that Canada is unique because many aspects of the two countries' respective economies are intertwined.
