The Supreme Court of Canada has closed the door on the Higgins family's legal options, by refusing to hear an appeal of the Nova Scotia government's 2012 decision to expropriate 8 acres of the Cleve Higgins' Moose River Christmas tree farm. The land is supposed to to be used as part of Australia's D-D-V Gold Limited open-pit mine.
Mr. Higgins says he was trying to retain control of land that has been in the family for more than a century. Now that his family has lost that, the next fight is to keep the mine from going ahead.
