Man's best friend: How an Ontario man survived a fall in the woods, thanks to his dog
Ever dream of retiring to the solitude of a cabin in the woods? Still, what if you run into trouble? Well if you're like Derik Hodgson, the answer is to make sure you have your dog with you. A simple winter walk for Mr. Hodgson near his isolated Elgin, Ontario cabin could have been his last, if not for his loyal dog, Badger.
"I was going out to take some pictures of eagles... and I hurried too much and slipped and fell down an embankment." Mr. Hodgson tells Carol.
"I was really quite stupid: I didn't have my cell phone, nobody knew where I was, nobody was at home, nobody missed me. Except the dog, who was looking at me like, 'What are you doing?' "
He couldn't get up. When he looked down, he saw that he had broken his leg twice and had severed his tendons.
