INTRODUCTION

Paris is a city in mourning. Today, public buildings were closed for the second day in a row as people attended vigils and services for those killed and maimed in Friday's deadly attacks.

At least 132 people were killed. Hundreds more wounded when gunmen and suicide bombers hit a concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars, almost simultaneously.

The attacks have been described by French President Francois Hollande as an "act of war" -- and said to be organized by the Islamic State militant group.

France has declared a national state of emergency.

As people around the world ponder what happened in Paris, many are asking the question how and why this could have happened.  ... and if the same kind of thing could happen to them. Perhaps you are ...and we do want to here from you.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is in Turkey at the G-20 Summit says he is working to ensure the safety of Canadians.

What are the implications for security internationally -- and for here at home?

The shooting and bombings on Friday come a mere ten months after killings at the Paris based satirical magazine, Charlie Hedbo -- and other sites -- in January of this year.

Friday's co-ordinated attacks were more extensive and more deadly.

U.S. President Barack Obama branded the terrorist incident as an "attack on the civilized world," pledging to stand in solidarity with France "in hunting down the perpetrators of this crime and bringing them to justice."

What contribution do you think Canada should make to this effort?

Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion has said that it is too soon to say if the Paris attacks will affect the Liberals' pledge to pull out Canada's fighter jets from the U.S.-led bombing mission against ISIS in Iraq.

What do you think about all this?

Our question today: "What are your reactions to the attacks in Paris?"

I'm Piya Chattopadhyay ...on CBC Radio One ...and on Sirius XM, satellite radio channel 169 ...this is Cross Country Checkup.
