Joe Welkie thinks his cheating is perceived differently because he's a man. 

"A lot of women get the excuse of if they cheat it's that their man wasn't paying enough attention to them, they didn't make them feel sexy, and there is a guy outside of their relationship that's like, 'Hey man your guy's not treating you right. You should come over here with me.' and that's a little temptation." 

While Welkie says he's not proud of cheating, he maintains he doesn't fit into the nefarious male cheater stereotype. His relationship was in the dumps and the attention he got from the person he cheated with made him feel good about himself again.
