Sharing the best indie podcasts
The Philippines has one of the largest diaspora populations in the world. According to my mom: "we can fit in anywhere and everywhere." But even still, as a second generation Filipina who had never been to the homeland, I could never quite relate to the experiences of my immigrant cousins because I hadn't lived them myself. While I looked the part, growing up I didn't feel "Filipino enough."
When I first came across Long Distance, I was elated. The stories explored on this pod provide an inside look into the complexities of the Filipino diaspora. It's a gentle reminder that while the Filipino experience is different for each person, those experiences are indeed valid. From un-highlighted histories to personal accounts, host Paola Mardo is honest and thoughtful in showcasing these stories – stories I wish I'd seen more of in the media growing up.
