'Painting is a relaxing therapy for me': Anvil drummer Robb Reiner on his work as a fine artist

The Canadian heavy metal band Anvil is best-known as the band that would never quit. Since the '70s, Anvil has persevered against all odds and they've built a loyal fan base around the world. About a decade ago, they reached a whole new audience thanks to the documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, which culminated in a triumphant show in Japan.

Founding members Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner have successfully kept the band alive on top of their day jobs, but what some Anvil fans may not know is that Reiner is also a fine artist. Working in oil on canvas, the Anvil drummer paints realistic scenes influenced by Edward Hopper and John Sloan.

Now, for the first time, Reiner has released a book of his paintings called Robb Reiner: The Canvas Collection, which is out now. He joined q's Tom Power in studio to tell us more about his love of painting, and how his creative process differs between painting and drumming.
