For almost two decades, Canadian-born Julien Christian Lutz, better known as Director X, has been one of pop's premiere music video directors, creating memorable visuals for the likes of Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West. Now, the legendary music video director is back with a new feature film.

When Director X got the assignment of bringing the 1972 blaxploitation movie Super Fly into 2018, he had to think about how he could put a fresh spin on a classic. He sat down with Tom Power to talk about why he moved the film's setting from New York to Atlanta, who he chose to update the music for 2018 and what it's like to grapple with the complicated legacy of blaxploitation films.

You can catch his feature film debut, Superfly, when it hits theatres on Wednesday, June 13.
