'Amy' director Asif Kapadia wants Winehouse doc to make you think

Asif Kapadia's Amy is an in-depth, nuanced look at the singer and songwriting prodigy from south London turned troubled pop.

A voice beyond her years, a death before her time. It's been almost four years since Amy Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning at age 27.

Director Asif Kapadia joins Shad to discuss his documentary Amy, an in-depth, nuanced look at the singer and songwriting prodigy from south London.

Kapadia's film, which opens this week in theatres across Canada, challenges viewers to think about our collective complicity in her demise. Her smash hit Rehab, he says, was a "massive cry for help".
