Toronto's Lilly Singh: Superwoman of the internet

Toronto entertainer and YouTube sensation Lilly Singh on her wildly popular blend of observational and sketch comedy.

Toronto entertainer and YouTube sensation Lilly Singh, a.k.a. Superwoman, joins Jian to talk about her rise to internet stardom and her dreams of moving out of her parents' house.

Her high-energy sketches -- including the recent music video, Leh -- feature Singh in multiple roles, and speak to the experiences of a suburban youth demographic which isn't represented broadly in the mainstream media.

"Even though they're all laughable things I'm talking about, the message is, 'Be whoever you want to be because you want to be that person, not because there's a line-up of people telling you to be that person'," she tells Jian

"You really have to believe in what you're doing, and that is genuinely the only way hate comments don't bother you."

Superwoman's viral power

Singh's vlogs about the daily life of a suburban Indo-Canadian twenty-something have earned her millions of views and followers.

Unfamiliar with her style? Below you'll find one of her most popular sketches, a reaction video in which she plays both her parents, and her contribution to a wildly popular meme.
