How Barry Avrich profiles Hollywood elite on his own terms
Filmmaker Barry Avrich uses his work to feed his fascination with powerful men in Hollywood, but some of the elite haven't taken too kindly to his interest.
First he'll charm you, then he'll barter with you, then he'll "swing a baseball bat at your head". That's how filmmaker Barry Avrich describes the three phases of negotiating with Harvey Weinstein.
Although the baseball bat is figurative, Avrich joins Shad to detail the real difficulties of profiling the mega producer, with or without his consent. He also shares how Weinstein ultimately reacted to his unauthorized profile, his larger fascination with Hollywood's elite, and what he's learned about power over the years.
"We all report to someone, I don't care who you are," laughs Avrich.
The filmmaker chronicles his adventures in his new memoir, Moguls, Monsters, and Madmen: An Uncensored Life in Show Business.
