Q

Kim Cattrall on Sensitive Skin and mastering your midlife crisis

Actress Kim Cattrall joins Shad to discuss the second season of 'Sensitive Skin' and the urgent need for more diverse stories about ageing.

When is it too late to reinvent yourself? How do you remain vital as you age?

These are questions Kim Cattrall has faced as both an actress and an individual. Cattrall, beloved for her portrayal of fiercely independent Samantha on Sex and the City, delivers a much more nuanced performance of middle aged Davina on HBO's Sensitive Skin

The darkly funny comedy follows a woman who is decidedly not "superwoman" but rather "as human and as vulnerable and real" as possible. The actress says the show, inspired by a BBC series of the same name, wasn't an easy sell — but is now resonating with those who wish to complicate the cultural conversation around aging.

"That is a story I want to tell, because it's happening to me," says Cattrall, adding that her biggest fear is losing her vitality as she gets older.

In an open-hearted interview, the actress reflects on presenting a different kind of "nakedness" on screen, her recent struggle with insomnia, and reinvigorating her self image as she approaches 60.
