From La Voix to opening for Sting: Charlotte Cardin's patient rise to success

Montreal artist Charlotte Cardin opens up about her life, post La Voix, and how sticking to her guts has led her to where she is now.

After her second place showing on Francophone singing competition La Voix, Charlotte Cardin was presented with a lot of opportunities. But instead of taking any immediate offers, she decided to wait.

"It didn't feel right, it didn't feel like I belonged in that industry yet," Cardin explains. "I just felt like I had a lot of work to do on my own before I could really be in the right place."

So, Cardin went back to school, travelled and just tried to let experiences build up and, as she says, "let the inspiration come to me instead of chase after it."

Over the course of three years, Cardin refined a group of six songs into her Big Boy EP, a culmination of all that hard work she put into her identity and her music, post reality TV.

"Right now my gut feeling is that I'm just really happy to be in the place I'm in," she says. "I'm comfortable with the music I'm sharing with people. I feel like, if I had jumped on the opportunities right after La Voix, I wouldn't have had songs that would've made me as proud as the ones that I have now."
