Joan Armatrading on why her last world tour is not the end
After 42 years and 20 albums, Joan Armatrading reflects on a pivotal moment in her career and the lasting power of a great song.
Joan Armatrading has written some of the most memorable songs of the postwar era, including Me Myself I, Love and Affection, and Willow. The prolific, genre-crossing artist is currently on the last major world tour of her 42-year career — but she's not even close to putting away the pen.
"I'm a songwriter. Why would I retire?" she laughs, "I think I'll be writing songs until the day I die.'"
The Saint Kitts-born, British-based musician joins Shad to reflect on this pivotal point in her career, and why neither shyness nor a deep need for privacy has stopped her from sharing her art.
