New interactive NFB doc watches the watchers online
Filmmaker and web developer Brett Gaylor wants you — yes, you specifically — to appreciate how your data is being tracked on the internet. His interactive, customizable NFB documentary Do Not Track, doesn't just tell you but expressly shows you just how sophisticated online surveillance has become.
Gaylor joins Shad to discuss the most troubling things he learned during the making of the film, how we're all paying for the internet even if we don't make online purchases, and why indifference is a sign you haven't done your homework.
He also shares anecdotes from countries where tracking is more blatant; for instance, he cites a chilling text message sent to Ukranian protestors: "Dear subscriber, you are registered as a participant in a mass riot."
