q artist in residence: finalists face off in final round

Six artists, four rounds, one chance to become q's first ever artist in residence. Today, your finalists share their commissioned works and reflect on our theme, I'm sorry you're offended.

Three talented artists — Adrienne Wong, Drew Hayden Taylor and Humble the Poet — present their final case for being q's first ever artist in residence. Vote for your favourite at the bottom of this post. 

Adrienne Wong

Ottawa-based theatre artist Adrienne Wong creates projects that enhance connection and encourage interaction. From audio plays to participatory shows, Wong invites audiences to "re-see" the familiar and re-imagine the everyday. 

In response to our theme, Wong created a self-serve apology generator — a site that specializes in partly-automated expressions of regret. Here's her ad for the service:

Drew Hayden Taylor

Drew Hayden Taylor is an award winning Ojibway playwright, novelist, scriptwriter and columnist. He was born and raised on the Curve Lake First Nation in central Ontario and has done everything from stand up comedy to directing. Cerulean Blue, his 27th book, has just been released. 

In response to our theme, he wrote a personal essay about aboriginal humour and how we decide what's funny. 

Humble the Poet

Former elementary school teacher Kanwer Singh a.k.a. Humble The Poet uses his teaching background to educate his expanding audience. The Toronto-bred MC and spoken word artist is known for his commanding presence, critical perspective and silly streak. 

In response to our theme, he presents his untitled poem about the nature of offense.
