Most transgender individuals have been through their fair share of battles, whether it's coming to terms with their gender identity or fighting for acceptance from their peers.

It might not be surprising, then, that Jolie Drake, a.k.a NoShame, has chosen to get in the ring for a different type of fight: battle rap.

She's the world's first transgender battle rapper to compete in organized leagues — and that fighting spirit is key when it comes to dealing with hip hop culture's ongoing struggles with transphobia and homophobia.
