The long list has been whittled down to five worthy titles defended by five celebrity advocates, namely:
- Cameron Bailey, who will be defending the novel Ru by Kim Thuy
- Kristin Kreuk, who will be defending the memoir Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes by Kamal Al-Solaylee
- Craig Kielburger, who will be defending the non-fiction book The Inconvenient Indian by Thomas King
- Elaine "Lainey" Lui, who will be defending the YA novel When Everything Feels Like the Movies by Raziel Reid
- Martha Wainwright, who will be defending the novel And the Birds Rained Down by Jocelyne Saucier
All five join guest host Candy Palmater to make their first appeal for their boundary-busting book. These brave bibliophiles will battle it out in Canada's annual battle of the books starting March 16. Recent Q guest host and last year's winner, Wab Kinew, is this year's Canada Reads host.
