'I was disintegrating': Lol Tolhurst's rocky journey with The Cure

Lol Tolhurst remembers the moment where everything changed for him and the band he co-founded, The Cure. 

"We went into this club in L.A. and 'The Walk' or 'Let's Go To Bed' had been on MTV," Tolhurst recalls. "We stepped out onstage and suddenly it was like Beatlemania, there were girls screaming [...] I looked at [co-founder Robert Smith] and he had a big grin on his face." 

That feeling of euphoria didn't last long, though, as Tolhurst was kicked out of the band at their height of popularity (and a harmful drinking habit). But all these years later, Tolhurst has recovered from all of that and is now ready to tell all in a new memoir called Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys.

"I was disintegrating around that time," Tolhurst says, referring specifically to the 1989 album Disintegration, the album of which he was ejected from the band during the production of. "What I wanted to get across and try and help people with is their personal journeys."
