'My entire experience is on that record': Sting keeps going strong
When Sting went into the studio to record his latest album, 57th & 9th, he played a trick on himself.
Sting is always prepared and will head into the recording process with songs and sounds in mind, all neatly ready to be presented to others. But that's not what he did this time.
"I said, 'I have nothing, I have no idea what we're going to do,'" he confesses. "Let's just play musical ping pong [...] The album ended up having a certain energy because of those artificial limits. It has a kind of vitality that maybe would've been missing otherwise."
While some have deemed this album Sting's "return to rock 'n' roll," that's not how Sting sees it at all. He argues, "My entire experience is on that record."
Today, Tom Power speaks to Sting about his musical evolution throughout the years, his reunion with the Police and how it feels to tour with his son now. Watch the full video interview below.
