'Because I had nothing to lose, I was my most fearless': Olympic medallist Adam Rippon on his new memoir

After an impressive figure skating performance at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games that earned him a bronze medal, Adam Rippon shot to fame as "America's sweetheart." That day on the ice, Rippon became the first openly gay male athlete from the U.S. to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.

He amassed crowds of fans around the world, celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Leslie Jones and Britney Spears started tweeting their adoration for him, and he won the athletes-only edition of Dancing with the Stars.

Now, Rippon has released a new memoir all about his journey to that moment. He joined q's Tom Power live from New York to reflect on the process of putting his life story into print, and how figure skating competitions are a lot more like performances than you might think.

Rippon's new memoir, Beautiful on the Outside, is out today.
