'We all have a responsibility to share our stories': Humble the Poet on empowering others to use their voice

Humble the Poet joined q's Tom Power to perform some poetry and recount some of the stories, both joyful and painful, that have shaped him as a person.

Toronto's Humble the Poet is a hard person to categorize: he's a rapper, spoken word artist, social media influencer and author. His new book, Things No One Else Can Teach Us, is also hard to categorize — it's part memoir, part poetry and part self-help book.

Throughout the book, Humble shares stories and experiences that he hopes will inspire readers to share their own.

He joined q's Tom Power to perform some poetry and recount some of the stories, both joyful and painful, that have shaped him as a person.

"We were gifted the magic of creating art as a trade-off to the fact that we're going to experience a lot of sucky experiences in life," said Humble. "Ever since we've been painting on caves, I think it's been a really important human tradition to share our stories to help other people figure out their own."

Things No One Else Can Teach Us is out today.
