The Current for Jan. 7, 2022
Today on The Current:
The first week of 2022 is over, and there are already political challenges staring down Canada in the coming months. Our panel of Canadian political veterans takes us through the year ahead in national politics. It's comprised of Anne McLellan, who served as Liberal MP for Edmonton Centre from 1993 to 2006; Libby Davies, former NDP House Leader and who served MP for Vancouver East for 18 years; and Ted Menzies, who served as the Conservative MP for the former riding of Macleod in southern Alberta from 2004 to 2013.
Then, pioneering theatre producer Nina Lee Aquino will be taking over as artistic director of the National Arts Centre's English Theatre later this year. She joins us to talk about the complex questions surrounding Canadian identity and the role theatre plays in answering them.
And, author and science journalist Catherine Price is here to tell us why now is the time for a fun-tervention — and how we can create the conditions to feel joyfully alive. She's the author of The Power of Fun: How to Feel Alive Again.
Also, some of our younger listeners might be stuck at home again, but we — and some of our friends — have some ideas to help them have some fun. We've got music with Canadian children's singer Raffi; storytelling with author Emil Sher; and mindfulness exercise with early childhood educator Michelle Candelaria.
