The Current for March 8, 2021
Today on The Current:
This week we bring you a series, COVID in Canada: One Year and Counting, to mark the anniversary of the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a global pandemic. Starting the series, Matt Galloway goes inside a vaccination clinic run by the University Health Network in Toronto, talking to staff and patients about the tears, the excitement, the hope — and all the selfies.
Plus, when the pandemic hit, choirs around the world were silenced because of their risk of spreading COVID-19. The CBC's Judy Aldous brings us the story of how one choir in Calgary found a way to perform for audiences again, with a neat trick that eliminates the risk.
And on International Women's Day, we talk to former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard about ways to tackle gender bias and sexism in leadership. Gillard spoke with eight current and former leaders for her new book, Women and Leadership: Real Lives, Real Lessons, co-authored with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the former Nigerian finance minister who is now head of the World Trade Organization.
