Federal election draws Canada's athletes to polls

Despite their training and competition schedules, Canada's athletes found ways to vote in Monday's federal election.

Canadian athletes fulfill yet another national duty

Canadian athletes represent us all over the world.

But on Monday, they were out voting for whom they want to represent them.

Oct. 19 marked the final day to vote in the 42nd Canadian federal election, which ended with Justin Trudeau's Liberal party winning a majority government.

No matter how busy our athletes are, they found time to vote — and tweet.

Lizanne Murphy is on the Canadian women's basketball team, but is currently playing in France. Even though she's not at home, she found a way to vote.

Retired Olympian Clara Hughes knew she also wouldn't be in Canada on Monday, so she pre-voted last week.

On the other hand, kayaker Adam van Koeverden was on Canadian soil, so he made sure to vote before fulfilling his obligations as a Jays fan.

Walk-racer Evan Dunfee balanced voting with a much less fun chore.

Dunfee was joined by other members of Canada's athletics team, who were at the polls in full force. Long distance runner Natasha Wodak, decathlete Damian Warner and javelin thrower Liz Gleadle all tweeted about the election.

Joining the track athletes was softball Canada's Erika Polidori. The outfielder encountered the anticipated high voter turnout, but wasn't phased.

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard also made it a point to document her vote.
