The Ottawa Senators were noticeably aggressive in Game 3 against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, delivering 61 body checks compared to 36 by their opponent.

Unfortunately, the tactic didn't ultimately pay off for Ottawa as the Canadiens prevailed 2-1 in overtime, thanks to a pair of goals by forward Dale Weise.

His winning marker was recorded at the 8:47 mark of the extra frame.

Both teams were in a feisty mood in the early going, and that was just the beginning.

Senators enforcer Chris Neil didn't spare any feelings, greeting Habs centre Torrey Mitchell in a rather unfriendly manner.

Then another Habs player got crunched by Erik Karlsson.

As you see here, Karlsson wasn't done yet.

Ottawa's captain kept up with the hard-hitting ways in the second period.

And apparently the approach was contagious.

The Senators had something to show for their efforts as Clarke MacArthur opened the scoring to give Ottawa an early lead, but one that didn't hold up in the end.
