Women's 200 butterfly
Audrey Lacroix of Pont-Rouge, Que., was the beneficiary of Hungarian standout Katinka Hosszu's withdrawal from the race as she chose to rest for the 200 fly semifinals Tuesday night.
Lacroix, who touched the wall sixth in her heat in two minutes 9.21 seconds, secured the 16th final semifinal berth. She was third after 150 metres but uncharacteristically faded down the stretch, particularly over the final 25m, and the 32-year-old was forced to sit and watch the final heats to learn her fate.
Lacroix was 13th in the 200 fly at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and 12th in London four years ago. She competes Tuesday at 9:37 p.m.

Men's 200 breaststroke
Ashton Baumann, the son of double Canadian Olympic gold medallist Alex Baumann, finished well back of the top 16 qualifiers in 24th after a 2:12.61 performance. The 23-year-old Ottawa native won the 200 at the Canadian Olympic trials in 2:10.69, the only man in the final to go under the Olympic standard of 2:11.66.
Baumann was in a good spot after 100 metres, sitting fifth, but looked tired entering the final 50.
The semifinal is scheduled for 10:03 p.m. ET.

No gold defence for Hungarian
Dániel Gyurta of Hungary will not get a chance to defend his 2012 Olympic gold from London as he failed to get out of the heats, finishing one spot behind No. 16 Luca Pizzini of Italy for the final semifinal spot.
Gyurta, who clocked a then-world record 2:07.28 in the London final, let up too much in Tuesday's heats and clocked 2:11.28.
