Sydney Pickrem, Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson reach swim semis

A pair of Canadian women swam their way into the semifinals of the 200-metre individual medley with strong Olympic showings Monday in Rio de Janeiro.

A pair of Canadian women swam their way into the semifinals of the 200-metre individual medley with strong Olympic showings Monday in Rio de Janeiro.

Sydney Pickrem touched the wall with a time of 2:11.06, which was eighth-best overall, and Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson finished with a time of 2:12:47 in her heat to rank 14th among the field of competitors.

Only the top 16 swimmers move on to reach the two semifinals and stay in the hunt for a medal at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium.

Pickrem is a 19-year-old from Oldsmar, Fla., while 21-year-old Seltenreich-Hodgson was born in Ottawa.
