Caroline Veyre misses last chance to qualify for Olympic boxing

Caroline Veyre's loss at the boxing world championships on Monday not only meant her elimination from that tournament, but also extinguished her final hope of qualifying for the Rio Olympics.

Veyre won her first two 60-kilogram division matches in Astana, Kazakhstan, but needed a top-four finish to join teammates Ariane Fortin (St-Nicholas, Que.) and Mandy Bujold (Kitchener, Ont.) in qualifying for the Summer Games.

The 2015 Pan Am Games gold medallist from Montreal was beaten by Estelle Mossely of France, and now Veyre will need to wait four years for another shot at the Olympic Games.

In other action on Monday, Bujold lost her final preliminary match, while Sara Kali and Kim Clavel, both of Montreal, picked up victories and are headed to the quarter-finals of their respective weight divisions.
